Acrylic Artist - Junko Kageyama

Artist in Kyoto

From Higashiyama, Kyoto

Started creating acrylic paintings in 2004. Had her first solo-exhibition in 2019, and

since then has been actively holding exhibitions and engaged in other creative activities.

Her work was entered into the ‘11th Discover The One Japanese Art 2022 in Paris’ held

in France, where it received the Judges’ Special Award. In September 2022, her work

was selected for the historic ‘Nikaten’ art exhibition, and was displayed at the National

Art Center, Tokyo.

Career

As the number of her works increased, she held her first solo-exhibition inside the 100-

year-old Western-style building of the Kyoto Spring Valey Brewery. Starting with this

exhibition, she began actively exhibiting her work publicly. The coronavirus epidemic

prevented her from holding exhibitions for a while, so during this time she started

seling her acrylic paintings and printed T-shirts through her online store, and received a

lot of positive feedback. Her second exhibition was held at the co-working space ‘Good

Office Shimokitazawa’ in Shimokitazawa, Tokyo, and her third was held at ‘Sherry Club’

on Ishibe Street in Kyoto. After that, she participated in ‘11th Discover The One

Japanese Art 2022 in Paris’ exhibition held at the ‘Espace Cinko’ galery in Paris, France,

with the cooperation of Qualiart. There, her work received the Judges’ Special Award.

She qualified for the famous ‘Nikaten’ exhibition, which had been a goal for some time,

and participated in the exhibtion in September 2022. Through these experiences, she

now organizes colaborative projects with people she has met through her artistic

activities. In the past, she had a period of great difficulty due to suffering from

ulcerative colitis, which is designated as an intractable disease by the Japanese

Government. There was a time where she could not paint and her works did not do so

wel, but she overcame her hardships and continues to work as an acrylic artist.
